The Writer For Baldur's Gate III Isn't Dismissing The Possibility Of Adding New Races

Baldur's Gate III offers a plethora of character customization options. Players can select their classes and choose from an array of hairstyles, ensuring the creation process for their characters can be quite extensive.

Despite the abundance of customization options already available, gamers are still clamoring for an increased variety of races. Currently, the game includes 11 foundational races, but the expansive universe of D&D boasts a much wider selection, from shapeshifters to towering Tortle beings.

During a recent XboxOn livestream, Adam Smith, the writing director, remarked, "At this point, we don't have concrete plans to introduce new races, but we're certainly open to the possibility. What I can confirm is that our update roadmap isn't complete – there's more to come."

Incorporating new races into Baldur's Gate III presents a significant challenge for the developers at Larian Studios. New races would necessitate the creation of additional dialogue options and the introduction of non-playable characters belonging to those races to avoid players feeling like a lone Tortle in the vast expanse of the Sword Coast. This inclusion has implications even for races such as the Dragonborn, which was one of the more recent race additions. It's not until the third act that Dragonborn characters start to feel distinctly recognized for their unique draconic traits.
