The Simpsons: Tapped Out Bids Farewell After Over a Decade of Springfield Shenanigans
Sep-30-2024
After more than a decade, the journey of The Simpsons in mobile gaming is coming to an end as EA announces the discontinuation of The Simpsons: Tapped Out. This city-building game has captivated fans for 12 years, featuring an impressive assortment of updates, characters, and quests.
On Thursday, an official notice was issued to players, stating that in-app purchases would be disabled right away, and the game would be removed from mobile platforms on October 31. While players will still have access until January 24, 2025, this marks the final chapter for the beloved game.
Over its impressive tenure, Tapped Out offered a remarkable experience with 308 updates, 831 characters, and 1,463 questlines drawn from the iconic television series. The emotional nature of this decision has been acknowledged by EA, who emphasized their appreciation for the collaboration with the creators of The Simpsons and the Walt Disney Company, highlighting the joy fans experienced while building their unique renditions of Springfield.
Tapped Out allowed players to construct and manage their version of Springfield, the fictitious hometown of the Simpson family. Though it may not have significantly changed the city-building genre, players engaged in quests and completed levels to gain additional characters and structures that contributed to the growth of their city, unlocking further adventures in the process. The game utilized a two-tiered economy featuring cash as the non-premium currency and donuts as the premium currency obtainable through real-money purchases.
The longevity of Tapped Out is truly noteworthy. Since its debut in 2012, it has stood among some of the most enduring mobile games ever, joining ranks with titles like Candy Crush, Roblox, and Temple Run. Ultimately, however, The Simpsons: Tapped Out is reaching its final curtain call, and it seems fitting to recognize the game with a playful farewell.
