Epic Games Store Launches on Mobile: A New Era for iOS and Android Gamers

The introduction of the Epic Games Store to mobile platforms marks an exhilarating milestone for enthusiasts. Now accessible on iOS in the EU and worldwide for Android devices, it allows users to download popular titles such as Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and, for the first time, Fall Guys directly to their phones.

However, there are important details to consider. The Epic Games Store is currently limited to iOS devices in the European Union. The procedure to install it on an iPhone can be somewhat intricate, as it requires a different method than the traditional App Store. Epic Games has provided a tutorial video demonstrating how to get the Epic Games Store on iOS.

This rollout comes after ongoing legal disputes between Epic Games and Apple, as well as the introduction of the EU Digital Markets App (DMA), which mandates that Apple permit iPhone users to install alternative app stores. Epic Games has indicated that the lack of availability in other regions is due to Apple's ongoing restrictions, which prevent iOS users outside Europe from accessing Fortnite and the Epic Games Store.

Android users can access the Epic Games Store worldwide, but the installation process remains somewhat lengthy and necessitates enabling the option to install apps from unknown sources in their device settings. Epic Games has also shared a video that outlines the necessary steps to complete the installation process.

The lengthy installation for both platforms has been attributed to Apple and Google implementing intentionally difficult processes filled with multiple steps and unclear device settings. Epic Games is committed to continuing its legal battles and collaborating with regulators worldwide to address the unfair practices imposed by Apple and Google, which hinder development and consumer choice.

While Fortnite was previously available on iOS until its removal in 2020, this marks Fall Guys' debut on mobile devices. Besides the Epic Games Store, Rocket League Sideswipe can already be found on the App Store and Google Play Store.

Tim Sweeney, CEO and founder of Epic Games, expressed optimism about the launch, noting that the mobile landscape is beginning to embrace competition. He acknowledged the European Commission's role in facilitating the Epic Games Store's arrival on iOS in the EU.

According to Sweeney, European iOS users and all Android users now have access to their store and games, similar to the experience on open platforms such as PC and Mac. While challenges remain, this represents significant progress for both developers and consumers, ushering in an era of enhanced competition and choice.
